Can Endoscopy Treat The Esophagus Curing GERD And Chest Pain?

Hi My name is Craig. A hospital has just told me I have anxiety , causing chest pain, caused by GERD. Can this condition be fixed permanently by doing an endoscope, finding a hole or patching an area in the esophogus to prevent acid from coming up into my chest. Right now I m taking pills, but they are not doing much. Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

There are endoscopic methods for treating GERD. But these are still in experimental stages.
The simplest thing to do is treat GERD by taking pills like prilosec and with certain lifestyle/dietary changes.
The lifestyle/dietary changes include -
1. Weight reduction if obese
2. Avoiding coffee, citrus, chocolates, tomatoes, fatty food
3. Avoiding bedtime meal and going to bed at least 2-3 hours after food
4. And lastly treating anxiety and other forms of stress

I hope that answers your question.
Regards.
