Can Duphaston Cause Pain And Swollen Vein Around Knee Cap?

Hi, A few days ago I started to have a pain at the back of my calf which was very tender to touch and now bruised but I can t remember if I banged it. Yesterday I developed a pain in my knee that sometimes is very sharp when I stand or sit and a vein is now swollen and bulging over the knee cap. I have had a varicose vein removed in the other leg 20 yrs ago, Im now 40. I ve recently taken 14 days worth of durphaston 10mg 2 x daily as part of a fertility treatment. Do you think these are connected and what are your thoughts? I m hoping I can get a doctors appointment on Monday evening. Thanks

Hello,
Thank you for the question

The symptoms you are experiencing are not side effects of Duphaston.
Knee pain, swelling along with bruising is more suggestive of a torn muscle, tendon, meniscus or bursa in the knee joint.
This can happen due to insignificant trauma/injury, and most people do not remember the trauma.
Confirmation of diagnosis requires clinical examination and MRI scanning.
I recommend that you follow up with a Primary care Provider/ orthopedician for further management.
Meanwhile give adequate rest to affected knee, cold compress and Ibuprofen (if not allergic) for pain.

Hope I was able to help you
Please address any more concerns
Regards,
Dr.Lekshmi
