Can Doxycycline Cause Constipation?

I have just completed two weeks of doxycycline hyclate antibiotic {2 100mg cap per day}. For the last serveral days I have been experiencing constipation {starting two days before I completed the 2-week regimen}. Could the antibiotic be the cause? YYYY@YYYY

Hi, Constipation is a not a know side effect of Doxycycline, though diarrhea is known. . To help your constipation , take a high fiber diet containing fruits, salads and vegetables. Take plenty of fluids and maintain good hydration. Exercise also helps to stimulate the gut. . In case it does not help, then you can try taking bulk forming laxatives containing Psyllium . They are safe and not habit forming. Hope it helps.
