Can Depo Shot Cause Increased Nausea, Fatigue And Headaches?

I m having nausea that recently increased and worsened today but I m on the Depo shot. I did read up on it and I know it can cause nausea and possibly osteoporosis but I don t think it s the shot. I also feel extremely tired to the point that after even a good nights rest I get up with my 1 yo and if I sit down for even a sec I will fall right back asleep. I have headaches occasionally but nothing to bad. What should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing in HCM.
Depot shots are used for contraception. Since they are like hormones, they are known to cause side effects.
Commonly encountered side effects include headache, dizziness, mood swings, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, sore throat and menstrual disturbances.
Some of the symptoms what you have mentioned are due to side effects of the shot.
But, most of the times they are tolerable and goes off within few days. Hence relax and things will be back to normal soon.
However, if it becomes not tolerable, then you need to seek medical attention.
Hope the information provided is clear.
All the best.
