I have Crohns. my mcv is104. b12 ,folate and FSH I have been told are normal. I am extremely fatigued, have aches and pains all the time. I have lost most of my body hair (I have not had to shave my legs for months). I have recently started on Azathiaprine. on medical advice I stopped taking it for a week but there was no change in my symptoms.

Hi,Dear,Thanks for your query to HCM.
Dear I read your query and reviewed it with context to your query facts.
I understood your health concerns and feel Concerned about them.

Based on the facts of your query, you seem to suffer from-
Crohn's disease.
Being autoimmune disease, with regional entero-colitis,the hair loss/fatigue/ aches/pains is mostly from the protein and and micronutrient mal-absorption.Added to this is the effect of Imuran/ azathioprine-which adds to the causes of hairloss in your case.
Anemia is not there and Vit levels are normal.
Ommission of Azathioprine- would improve all the aches/ pains/ and hairloss.
Control of Crohn's with steroids, with high protein diet and Vitamin Supplements would recoup your hair loss.
Hope this would help you to solve your health issues in the best way possible.
Welcome for any further query in this regard.

Good Day!!

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM.
I reviewed facts of your query in context to your health issues and feel concerned about them.

My Opinion-

In My opinion, in the given situation you seem to suffer from-Mild Pernicious Anaemia. This anaemia with azathioprine is the cause of hair loss and fatigue/aches in your case
Other causes of it need to be ruled out, after getting more details from you.

Do's Suggested-
In the given condition you are in-I would suggest as follows-
a-Injectable B12-as oral is ineffective due to Crohn's ileal affection.
b-Bland diet with leafy vegitable/ fruits
c-Steroid-prednisone / or budesonide-use is the main basis of treatment,if azathioprine needs to be avoided in case of its side effects. In 4 weeks time you would get relief of current side effects with the above plan.
Consult your physician in this regard.

Next appointment-

After 2 weeks to review treatment for existing left colitis with Gastric problem .

If you update more information/ details upon these suggestions, I would give further suggestions on medicines to correct your health issues.

If need be, update any health issue 24 x 7 by a direct question to ME, at following HCM link-http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/Funnel?page=askDoctorDirectly&docId=70229
