My father has a history of COPD and peripheal artery disease. He had surgery to open up the arteries in his legs and waist..is on meds and and a nebilaizer for his copd but his pulmonary function does not warrant oxygen in the home. he still gets out of breath walking across the street. Could clogged arteries to his heart cause breathing problems and shortness of breath?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
COPD can itself lead to breathlessness . As your father also has a history of peripheral atery disease it is important to rule out other cardiovascular causes of brethlessness.
Kindly consult a cardiologist. Get the following tests done:
1. ECG
2. Echocardiography
3. Lipid profile
4. Liver function tests.
Based on the reports the doctor shall do the needful.
Regards,
Dr.Riyanka
