Can Chronic Sinusitis Cause Optic Nerve Ischaemia?
Can chronic sinusitis eventually cause optic nerve ischaemia as this has happened to me a fit and healthy 57 year old nurse practitioner who does not smoke or drink alcohol. My only vice was working sixty hours a week for the NHS ! I was also found to have hypertension and hypercholesterolaemia and I am gutted to now have central vision loss in my left eye. My BP is now 120/70 and am on statins,aspirin and anti hypertensives. The sudden vision loss occurred five weeks ago and although my vision is improving it is depressing to think I won t have total vision back. Is there anything else that I could do to regain my vision or regenerate the nerve?

It seems from the history that you had sudden loss of vision probably because of optic nerve damage probably by optic neuritis.
Though there will be gross diminution of vision in optic neuritis the vision will improve in 90% of cases. All cases require evaluation to find out the underlying cause and treatment accordingly to prevent recurrences as recurrences can cause permanent loss of vision.
The treatment is by use of steroids. Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for examination and treatment accordingly.
