Can Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Cause Swelling In Middle Finger?
Hello! I have bee suffering with the possibility of carpal tunnel syndrome in both of my hands for the past 2 months. I have bought braces for both hands, and they have been helping some what. I recently noticed that my right, middle finger knuckle is noticably larger than all of my other knuckles. It is not swollen. It looks as if my bone is larger. Could this possibly be because of carpal, or is there something more I should be concerned about?
Hello Thanks for the query to HCM. Let me explain , what is carpal tunnel syndrome in brief. Carpal tunnel contains median nerve and bounded by the transverse carpal ligament and the carpal bones with their intervening articulations. If such tunnel contains synovial tissues , the nerve may become compressed in the tunnel, if the bulk of synovial membrane increase. As for example in rheumatoid arthritis , so in your case this swelling in the middle finger knuckle may be due to rheumatoid arthritis . So get in blood for R A factor for confirmation. The next reason of such swelling may be due to osteoarthritis . Diagnosis can be confirmed by blood examination for infection.C T scan of part will also find out any disease . In my opinion consult an orthopedic surgeon and get his opinion as physical examination is very important in this case.
