Can A Perfume Body Wash Irritate The Vagina?

Hi can a perfume body wash irritate the vagina? Also a question I have is if a urine track infection can cause a fever and hot and cold flashes. I went to the er today and the doctor said I had a urine track infection and my vagina looked irritated so he did a herpes swab which I don t think that could be the case because would u feel pain if blisters were coming on? He just wanted to make sure because it was a little red which I thibk it s from the new perfume body wash I been using down there.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Welcome to HCM.
I appreciate your concern for the perfumed body wash.

Yes, it can cause irritation and localized allergic reaction leading on to redness and pain.
Herpes rash is associated with painful blisters, itching, irritation, etc.
May be he just wanted to rule out the possibility of genital herpes infection.

The vagina is very sensitive and can easily become irritated.

1. Do not use scented soaps or body washes in the shower, and do not use scented lotions anywhere near the vagina.
2. Avoid using a loofah or a washcloth to clean your vagina. wash your vagina with your hand and water.
3. If you feel you must use a soap to feel clean, then use a non-scented soap intended for sensitive skin, but use very sparingly and make sure you rinse with a lot of water.

Hope these preventive measures could be beneficial to you.
