Can A Nasal Spray And Decongestant Help With Middle Ear Fluid?

Hi. For the past 5 months I've had middle ear fluid. My ENT prescribed me nasal sprays and decongestants to help but it doesn't seem to be working. I get no pain or hearing loss. Had my hearing tested and my hearing is fine. Did a tympanogram and it detected nothing. The ENT told me to continue the nasal spray and decongestant for another month.

My issue right now is that I hear popping in my ear. Doesn't feel like pressure but like a bubble popping. What are my nonsurgical options? Will this ever go away?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if you have fluid accumulation in the middle ear, many a times if gets resolved on its ow even without the treatment..
But in case if it does not get improved then the medications that will help you are decongestants that can be taken orally like Phenylephrine or Pseudoephadrine and nasal decongestant sprays like Xylometazoline..
But in case if it does not resolve with non surgical procedures then a surgical procedure by putting a small incision on the ear drum and draining off the fluid can help..
You can also be advised Pressure Equalization tubes that will help in easing the drainage and maintaining pressure balance across the eadrum will be advised..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
