Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have low vitamin C and D. I am tired and not feeling well and I have alot of night sweats along with muscle spasms. They seem to brush this off, but I feel terrible. I have alot of medical problems, but this continues to show up on blood test with the vitamin problems. I am having surgery next week, but I am not sure because of the way I feel. I also had a continuing fever now for about 3 months.(low grade)
Good evening, First of all, please do not start any vitamins just before surgery. They would be very unhappy with you. For someone with complex health issues that have affected the entire body i like to refer out to a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist for a complete assessment. You sound like you may have a plethora of nutrient deficiencies. The muscle spasms could be caused by low magnesium. It is not unusual to be low in vitamin D and if you were my patientI would put you on 5,000 IU per day. Optimally, if you could afford the testing I would recommend running a micronutrient testing panel on you to see what you are deficient in so we wouln't have to just deduce the answer of what your blood is low in, what your body didn't absorb, etc. On the other hand, it sounds like you haven't been given much medical information, either.
. The vitamin C is fine. What shows up on your test? Doctors don't order vitamin C tests. The spasms are probably from your need for magnesium, try 200 mg/day. Are the doctors giving you vitamin D supplements? Then increase them if the level you are on are not increasing your blood work. Go to Buffered vitamin C, 1000 mg day if it is still low, but don't take it forever as it can cause kidney stones. Plenty of fluid. The continuing low grade fever, night sweats and spasms do not sound like a good combination to me. Get a second opinion. Thank you for visiting HCM. Its been a pleasure trying to answer your concerns.
