Can A Home Pregnancy Kit Detect Pregnancy In Case Of Failed MTP Abortion?

hello doctor nw its been a month i take mtp but still bleeding goes on i consult Dr. she suggest me to take sonography se also gives me some medicine course of 3 months also and also i want to know that before taking sonography can i check with preganews that i m still pregnant or wht ?

Thanks for writing to us.

You can do the Preganews test before proceeding ultrasound scan. It may give positive result until blood beta-hCG level comes down to normal level (less than 5 mIU/ ml) and also in failed or incomplete medical abortion.

If product of conception is completely expelled out, then test will give NEGATIVE result.

You must do ultrasound scan to check retained bits and placental tissue as your bleeding continues.

In that case, repeat dose of above medicine may be required or you may need to undergo D & C to evacuate uterine cavity.

Kindly, consult with your doctor and take suggestive measures accordingly. Practice safe sex in future. Good luck.

Hello dear
Understand your concern.
If you have incomplete abortion, home pregnancy kit give positive/slight positive (slight dark band) result.
If it is complete abortion, it will take 7-10 days to become negative.
So you can check pregnancy by urinary pregnancy kit (it is slight positive if incomplete abortion)
But exact scenario should be checked by USG.
Use safer sex practice (I pill, condoms) and choose your contraception method to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
