i am 46 years of age and i had by 4th child (have previously had 3 miscarriages) at age 45 - my baby is now 13 months old. i breastfed my baby for 11 months and then had my first period after pregancy 5 weeks and 3 days after stopped breastfeeding altogether. my next period was 24 days after that and my third period was 27 days after that. My cycle has been somewhat irregular - sometimes 19 days, sometimes 24 days - no set pattern. It is now 30 days since my last period and I am very anxious that i may be pregnant. i have had sex using a condom and we have been careful and i have no pregnancy signs but my period has never been this late before. i do not want to go to the doctor as he is a family friend. what would your opinion be please?
Hi there, I have understood your concern. I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.
1 ) First of all do not panic.
2 ) As you have mentioned that you had protected sex activity in the concerned cycle, then chances of getting pregnant are almost nil.
3 ) Still if you have any dilemma about pregnancy, I will suggest you to get morning's first sample of urine tested for pregnancy. In case of doubt blood beta HCG test and USG will be of help.
4 ) As you are not breastfeeding the baby, you can opt for oral contraceptive pills, if you wish. This will help to prevent unwanted pregnancy and will also regulate your monthly cycles.
I hope this answer helps you. Thanks. Dr. Purushottam Neurgaonkar. .
