Can A Canker Sore On The Gum Cause Numbness In Upper Lip And Nose Tip?

I have a small bump on top of my front tooth in the gums. I am in a lot of pain, I also went to the dentist and he said it does not look like an absessed tooth. He suggested it might be a canker sore. My question was could this canker sore or bump on my gum be the reason my upper lip and lower nose feel numb. When I pinch my lip it still hurts but it feels like it s numb.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain a painful bump over the gums can be due to a few causes like:
1.In case if the tooth below the gums where you have the ulcer is decayed then it can be a Dental abscess due to accumulation of pus over the root tips of the tooth leading to formation of dental abscess.

2.It can be a gum abscess in case if there is infection in the gums or a Periodontal abscess if the gum infection has involved the deeper structures like underlying bone..

3.It can be a canker sore but the chances of the above w conditions is more probable..

The numbness over the upper lip and lower part of nose can be due to inflammation and pain and is more commonly seen in dental abscess as the pus puts pressure over the nerve endings..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a clinical examination and an IOPAR [x-ray] can help in diagnosis..

In case of dental abscess root canal treatment followed by antibiotics and painkillers will relieve..
In case of gum or periodontal abscess, deep scaling, curettage followed by antibiotics, painkillers and topical gum paint application will help..
An apthous ulcer can be treated with multivitamins, application of numbing gel over the ulcers, warm saline gargles, taking anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen can help..

As of now apply numbing gel over the ulcer and take painkiller Ibuprofen for relief from pain..
Avoid hot and spicy foods..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
