Hello, I am 50+ years old and after being off birth control pills since December 2012 I did a fsh blood test in march 2013 and the result was 54.2. I have not seen my period since December 2012. I had mild sex last night and am now spotting. Do I need to make an appoint with my Dr or should i watch for a while?
The common cause of post coital bleeding in menopausal women is atrophic vaginitis. It occurs due to estrogen deficiency and hence the vaginal lining becomes thin and can bleed on minor trauma.
Other reasons are cervical causes like erosions and polyps and very rarely cervical cancer.
So you must see you doctor and get an examination. In most cases it is due to atrophic vaginitis and estrogen creams help in cure.
