Can Zeformin Affect Pregnancy?

Hello Sir, My wife is diabetic for the past two years and she is taking ZEFORMIN XR30 tablets from the day1. 1tab in the morning and 1/2 in the evening. We are trying for a second child from the past two years and it never went successfull. I have a doubt as this may be the primary reason for it. She has always been in control with her diet and regularly checks her glucose level which are in control. Please let me know should we continue the medicine or change it to someother? Your help and suggestion is highly appreciated. Thank you! Bharathkumar

Zeformin XR-30 contains Gliclazide 30mg and Metformin 500mg as ingredients.

Metformin is an oral anti-diabetic biguanide medication that helps control blood sugar levels. It is safe during pregnancy as there is 'no evidence of risk in human pregnancy' according to the FDA. The medication has not been associated with an increased risk of birth defects or complications.

Gliclazide belongs to the class of sulfonylurea, known as oral hypoglycemics. It is used for the control of blood glucose in people with type 2 diabetes. This drug should not be used in pregnancy may cause harm to the developing baby, as well as it should not be used during lactation as well. If one becomes pregnant while taking this medication, contact your doctor immediately and seek medical attention.
