Can Trazadone When Taken With Nyquil Cause Drug Interaction?

Can I take Nyquil and 100 mg of Trazadone together safely? NyQuil does not aide in my sleeping, but I do have a terrible cold that it helps with. I don't sleep if i don't take trazadone (although it still doesn't help to get me more than 4 or 5 hours a night anyways)

I have gone through your question in detail and can very well understand your health concerns as well as appreciate your awareness..

Trazodone is a tricyclic antidepressant while Nyquil contains two drugs:
1. Dextromethorphan which is a cough suppressant
2. Doxylamine which is a potent anti allergic and also used as an over the counter sedative.

Trazodone has a fatal interaction with Dextromethorphan and can cause SEROTONIN SYNDROME which can lead to muscle spasms, changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, sweating,seizure, hallucinations etc..

With Doxylamine it can cause dizziness and lack of concentration..

Therefore taking Nyquil and Trazodone is not indicated as it can cause fatal side effects..

You should consult a physician and explain your medical history in details and get proper medication..
