Can Tramadol Help In Pain And Stiffness In Legs Due To Arthritis?

Hello, I have a question regarding Tramadol. My husband is 77 years old and is suffering from arthritis pain in his legs. They are very stiff, he is keeping himself active, walking daily, but still very uncomfortable. Is Tramadol a drug that would help him? Thank you. Shelly Martin, e-mail YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
tramadol helps and has a lot of side effects.I suggest starting with NSAIDs (with omeprazol 20mg once a day if your husbands suffers from stomach ache or takes aspirin too) or celecoxib (if he has no ischemic cardiovascular or cerebral problems as TIA, stroke, angina, lower limb arteriopathy or heart infarction). if contraindicated, try with acetamynophene+codein. if not working, use tramadol. however limit oral therapy to the acute phase, 3-5 days not more.consider surgical replacement for major joints osteoarthritis
