Can Regestrone Be Used As An Emergency Contraceptive Pill?

Hi, i am getting married on 23 Apr and my to- be wife s period starts from 23 as well. She has consulted a doctor for postponement of periods and he prescribed Regestrone 5mg to be started on 19 Apr i.e today and taken till 23rd. Me and my wife don t want a pregnancy after unprotected intercourse so have planned a one time use of I-pill ECP on the 24th. I would like to know that instead of using ECP, can we continue the use Regestrone 5mg as a regular oral contraceptive pill and safely have unprotected intercourse ??? Please guide.....

Hi,
I understand your query.
You had started Regestrone for 3 days , to postpone your period . On 24th you have taken I pill as an emergency contraceptive....I pill has a high hormonal content. you have taken it after 3 days of regestrone, which again is hormone for oral contraception. Both the pills must have hiked your hormonal level & will result in slight withdrawal bleeding within in coming week & your routine period will be delayed by 8 days.
Actually Regestrone is an oral contraceptive for regular use. But your present state of changing hormonal levels, I would not advise you to continue it as regular contraceptive.
Wait for your normal period resume, ( Use barrier contraceptive Like condom carefully til then)l& start Tablet Regesterone on 5 th day of your cycle. Take all 20 tablets regularly at same time of day. After finishing the pills.. you will get your period within 8 days. Continue the pills every month till you want to avoid pregnancy. This will give you ideal contraceptive effect.
Thanks.
