Can Propananlol Be Taken For Anxiety When Suffering From Heart Palpitations?

Hello. I experience heart palpitations and went to see my doctor about it who ordered a holter monitor test which I did. Yesterday I went in for the results and the said it was pretty much fine and most of the events that I had noted my heart was being normal apart from once where it was beating at over 140 just after I had the monitor fitted. I noted I have some anxiety and she suggested I either go on Lexapro or Propanalol. I chose the propanalol as I don't think I need to be on anti depressants. My anxiety is not that bad but when I am anxious I experience heart palpitations and vice versa. My question is, I don't want to have to take Beta Blockers every day forever for something that happens occasionally. My doctor wasn't very clear about this so I am wondering if it is safe to take the propananlol "as needed" when I have issues? Or do I have to take it every day? And if I need to take it every day am I able to slow down my usage to stop? The dosage I have been prescribed is 40mg once a day. Thanks.

HI
For palpitation along with anxiety propanalol 40 mg is very safe drug.
You can take 10 mg three times a day for better response
Slowly reduce one tablet after 3-5 days as soon as the symptoms are controlled
If palpitations reoccurre ,take some precautions
-Limit coffee,alcohol,spicy food
-Take fruits and fresh juices,plenty of water
-Have a sound sleep
-Get blood test for Thyroid
