Can penicillin cause a side affect reaction by giving you a rash all over and swollen lymph glands in the back of my head behind my ears this is all something recent since I had to take penicillin for a dental procedure it's the only thing I was taking that was new so I'm trying to figure out why I have broken out in a rash and have pain on each side of the back of my head as though someone hit me

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, Penicillin can cause an allergic reaction to the similar presentation of symptoms that you have. So, my first advice is to stop taking Penicillin and take anti-allergic like Benadryl or Levocetirizine.

You should consult an emergency room for getting alternate antibiotics. If the allergy symptoms are severe you can be given steroid shot for resolving the symptoms faster. Also, do cool compresses over the rashes and swelling and apply calamine lotion.
Drink plenty of water.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
