Can Paroxetine And Fexofenadine Be Taken Together?

I m just wondering if it s safe to take Paroxetine (Paxtine 20mg) and Fexofenadine 180 together? I am currently on one Paxtine tablet daily for anxiety but also suffer badly from chronic idiopathic urticaria and dermatographia, and my doctor has me on corticosteroid creams but they re not helping and I can t get back to see him until next week. My skin is driving me crazy and fexo 180 used to help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern for the safety of the prescribed medications.
Paroxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor is used in the treatment of depression and anxiety conditions.
Fexofenadine a non sedating antihistamine is commonly used to treat allergic conditions like urticaria, rhinitis, etc.

Since Fexofenadine does not cross blood brain barrier hence it is less like to have harmful interactions if given along with Paroxetine. Hence, it can be used safely to treat chronic urticaria.

Hope this answers your query.
