Can Nyquil Be Given To Child To Stop Persistent Cough?

My daughter is 8yrs old, symptoms of common cold- stuffed nose, sore throat - no fever. She has been coughing literally all night. I have given her 1 dose of the children's nighttime cold and cough med. approx 10mil. As well as a teaspoon of honey to sooth this chronic cough she's having. It is now 2hrs later with no relief - literally coughing every 15-20sec. Can I give her a small dose of NyQuil -5mil to try to stop this cough?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Cough can be because of several reasons. First it is important to identify the exact cause of cough before starting any treatment. It is important to identify danger signs like rapid breathing, poor feeding, chest indrawing, abnormal sounds during breathing etc. So a physical examination is important to identify the cause. Please consult your pediatrician for the same.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
