Can Metoprolol Succinate And Lisinopril Be Taken Together?

My husband is 57 yrs. of age, 212 lbs. and 5 11 . He has been taking Metoprolol Succinate 100 mg once daily for his high blood pressure for several months and it wasn t coming down, so, now his doctor is starting him on Lisinopril 20 mg to be taken in combination with it. Should the two be taken at the same time or at different intervals during the day? What is most effective?

Hi,

I have gone through the medical history of your husband and understood your concern.

Metoprololol succinate is a beta-blocker used to treat high blood pressure (bp).
When it fails to reduce bp, then, other drugs of other groups should be used in combination with metoprolol.

This explains why his doctor started Lisinopril, which is an ACE-inhibitor, another drug class to reduce high bp.

Both, hopefully, they will succeed in reducing your husband's blood pressure.

Should be used as directed by his doctor. Usually, after meal, metoprolol in divided doses; while lisinopril either in divided doses or one dose only as directed.

Wish fast recovery.
