Can Lisinopril Be Crushed Before Consuming It?

I was put on Lisonopril today. I explained to my doctor that I can not take it in pill firm because it gets stuck in my throat. Doctor insisted it s small and must be taken whole and to put in pudding. Well, I tried that and of course it got stuck and I had to force it back up. Researching articles I see conflicting views on if this pill can be crushed? Can I do this or not?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
Yes, it can be crushed before consuming it.

Lisinopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor which is commonly prescribed to treat hypertension (high BP), heart failure and following myocardial infarction (heart attack).

Lisinopril should be swallowed preferably with a glass of water, milk or juice at approximately the same time each day. It can be taken with or without food.

You can crush the tablet and mix it with a small amount of soft food such as yogurt, honey or jam. Make sure that you swallow it straight away without chewing.

Hope these answer your query.

A feedback is appreciated.
