Can I Use Neosporin On Pimple Of Clitoral Hood In Order To Avoid Infection?

Hello, I have a red sore on my clitoral hood. I am not currently sexually active and there is no way it is an std, I was tested for those about a month ago and all the tests came back clean. (With no sex of any kind since) It looks like it is maybe in infected gland or a pimple. Can that happen there? I noticed it cause I was itchy there and at first I thought it was a yeast infection. I did the treatment for that for a couple days. But I started thinking about it more and there is no irregular discharge and it's only on the hood. So that didn't add up. I took a look at it just now and it is as I have described above: red, sore-like in appearance, pimple like. Is this something that will go away in time? I have been using neosporin to keep it from getting infected since it is external and to keep it from bring painful/itchy. Should I continue with the neosporin? Thank you in advance.

Hi ! Good afternoon and a happy New Year 2014. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

As such Neosporin won't cause any harm to you and so you can continue applying the same. But I would advise you to consult a gynaecology specialist to get physically examined for a proper diagnosis instead of trying to manage it by discussion over net as one can not examine or diagnose it just by the history.

I hope this information should help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in solving this problem. Thanks for using the healthcare magic forum for your health query. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
