Can I Be Pregnant If Gestational Sac Is Not Visible?

Hi Doctor,
I had my 3 UPT kit test positive with dark lines. Today i went for ultrasound. Doctor told gestational sac is not visible. I have irregular periods. Beta HCG ( Quantitative) test is done, results awaited. Is it possible that I may be pregnant?

Hello and thanks for the query,

If UPT is positive, there is a pregnancy. The sac is not visible if ultrasound is done too early. Also in irregular periods, the ovulation may be delayed, hence the baby is smaller than expected and so sac is not visible. It is advisable to get a blood HCG as you have already done and also a follow up USG [transvaginal] after 2 weeks to look for sac.

Hope this helped. Best of luck and begin your prenatal vitamins and HCG injections if advised.

Take care.
Hope this satisfies your query.
