Can HIV Be Transmitted Through Infected Liquid Antiseptic?

Hi, i used dettol to clean a very small scratch that was bleeding a tiny bit and when i looked inside the white lid i could see some tiny stained blobs around circular edge that looked like blood. Im bot sure if this is actually blood or dettol but this has made me panic a bit and think what if this was blood and what if it was infected with anything like hiv or hep b. Would appreciate some professional medical advice on this?

Hello dear ,
I read and understand your concern.
I am Dr Arun Tank, infectious disease specialist answering your concern.

Dettol is antiseptic ointment used for killing organisms. So there is no question that such virus can grow in this antiseptic solutions.

The virus name you have mentioned is very sensitive to physical and chemical stress. Once they exposed to such a stress they are immediately killed. So as if you are using the solution you are safe from such a virus.

Even this virus wont survive in the atmosphere for more period. So you can assume that even slight exposure of the virus can kill them.

You can ask me for further clarification here or you can ask me on bit.ly/DrArun.
Thank you,
Dr Arun Tank
