Can HIV Be Contracted Through Accidental Ingestion Of Finger Nail?

Hi So I ve been having this huge over-exaggerated assumption that I have HIV. So a few weeks ago, I ate a quarter pounder from mcdonalds and found out that there were nail clippings in them, bitten. I got sick two days after BUT I got well in about 1-2 days. I mean they were close to the flu I think? I mean it was runny nose, sore throat, fatigue, and coughing. All the other symptoms are gone EXCEPT the coughing. Currently, I ve been plagued with coughing, a feeling of something stuck in my throat that causes the coughing, headaches (well they come and go?), and I discovered 2 swollen lymph nodes under my head. I think it s called submandibular lymph node? I was wondering could I have contracted HIV? Other than the Mcdonald incident, there hasn t been any things that I could think of that would get me sick, I haven t been sexually active at all. Could my current condition be something to worry about? The coughing, headache, and swollen lymph node?

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

You have no chance of HIV so don't worry about that. HIV can spread by sexual route or blood borne infection. You don't have any history of sexual activities or blood transfusion so don't worry about HIV.

You have cough, fever, headache and swollen lymphnode. It suggest some upper respiratory tract infection. Your lymphnode enlargement is due to reactive hyperplasia of lymphnode.

You need a course of antibiotics like levofloxacin or amoxiclav. It is prescriptions based medicine so consult your doctor and take treatment accordingly. For fever and headache paracetamol should be used. For cough antihistaminic drugs like cetrizine or avil is useful.

Hope I have answered your question, if you have any doubts then contact me at bit.ly/Drsanghvihardik, I will be happy to answer you.
