Can Dilantin Cause Significant Bone Loss, Gingivitis, And Nerve Damage?

Hi currently using 100 ml Dilantin daily. Can this cause significant bone loss, gingivitis, and nerve damage. Secondly, is phenobarbytol a similar drug in same family as Dilantin. I noticed behavior of moving fingers as if playing a piano and client often refuses medication says it makes her feel weird.

hi,
Dilantin on long term use can cause bone loss (osteoporosis) gum hypertrophy, and only rarely neuropathy.
Phenobarbitol has got different kind of action and different side effect profile than phenytoin.
ataxic movements are seen with dilantin, but are localized to cerebellar ataxia and movement abonormalities. if one develop these, it is ideal to change over to alternative drugs.
hope i am clear.
