Can Atomoxetine Be Taken For A Long Time Without Side Effects?

Hi doctor, I am at present employed overseas ,after a gap of nearly 20 years I have opted to go for a job ,as I was self employed during the said period.I had a lot of trouble accomodating myself in the job..and i had refused many promotion offer from my boss as i did not feel good to carry on fully involved though i dont have an option if i go back..my doc intially put on me on through nexito,narebox and modalert..they had cused so much side effects ..i had discontinued using them in 10days from may 25th 2009..after wards when i became emotionally unstable and felt desperate for a medical aid , i resorted to tablets on an experimental basis and found out that it was narebox which really helped me to regain the confidence and the mental alertness required for my marketing job..i went to india for my vacation in nov 2009 and i was saddened to know that narebox is out of market.and my doctor suggested me to ignore that and carryon with the rest..then he prescribed stablon .i was dissatisfied with his tretment approach.as i wanted a drug that keepd me focusssed on my job..on reading many articles wrt the thereupetic effects of drugs ..i located atomexetine 10mg as a drug in place of narebox as both are ne reuptake inhibitors..and using that since then..for the past 3 months along with stablon7.5mg..i feel so good with the 10 mg attentrol..my question is can i continue the course..if so how long?i feel i could go to office without the tabs ..it seems compulsory on all working days..pl advice the duration and alternative medicine..list out the long term side effects of these drugs...regards...chandy

with Atomoxetine, base line electro cardio gram (as per American academy of cardiology) and liver function test to be taken. After that, liver function test (sgot and sgpt) has to be monitored every 6 months. as u have completed 19 years, we need not really worried about ur height but we have to keep ur weight in track. we have to put in non pharmacological strategies in place based on your symptom profile so that we will be able to take of medications one by one after an year. it is not advisable to continue any psychotropic medications for a long time as Neuro modulatory effects in long term use has not been well documented.
