Can Acalasia Cause Elevated Oesophageal Spasms That Resemble Heart Angina Symptoms?

I have been diagnosed with Acalasia. In addition to Acalasia, I have GERD and a hiatus hernia. My surgeon in Penticton, BC has never performed the surgery that I require as Achalasia is not a common disease. I respect the general surgeon but was investigating if there was a GI surgeon in my area that may have experience with this disease. I have been on a waiting list for surgery for 5 months. My second question is there a way it can elevate the esophageal spasms. They last for days and range from uncomfortable to unbearable heart angina symptoms.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of being diagnosed as Achalasia Cardia, also have GERD and Hiatus hernia. On waiting list for 5 months for surgery, wants to know is there any way that Achalasia can elevate the esophageal spasm, they last for days and range from uncomfortable to unbearable angina symptoms.
Actually the Achalasia and GERD can not coexist at all as there is so much narrowing at the lower esophagus that there can not be any reflux possible.
Hence I would advise you the following: Get the evaluation done again as your history does not fit into any of the usual norms of different diseases.
Achalasia does not cause such pains as heart angina, hence you have to undergo all the cardiac check ups under the care of a Cardiologist.
Achasia is permanent esophageal local increase in pressure and resistance.
The esophageal spasms are again a different disease entity.
Please get the diagnosis re-evaluated and corrected otherwise you will land up in wrong diagnosis and treatment.
