General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,
Treatment in this case depends on clinical appreciation, especially the intensity of any associated pain or stiffness. This shall range from simple analgesics, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids, gold salts, hydroxychloroquine, Vitamin D supplementation. It shall be very important to check blood Calcium levels and Vitamin D levels especially before commencing treatment. Most of the treatment are eliminated by the Kidney, and in systemic diseases, integrity of the kidneys always has to be checked regularly. Gluconates and Biphosphonates could be particular useful under these circumstances.
The ideal thing to do is consult a rheumatologist.
Kind regards. Bain MD
