CAT Scan Of Abdomen Done. Suggestions?

i have just receiveda catscan of my abdomen. The report says there is dialationof the extrahepatic bile duct extending into the head of the pancreas at which point it measures 13mm in diameter. No gradual tapering seen within the pancreatic head. The CBD terminates abruptly within the pancreatic head. No head lesion to account for this abnormality. What does this mean? I am a 61 yr old woman survivor of squamous/adeno carcinoma. THANK YOU, Nina Leonhardt

Hello and welcome to HCM,
The interpretation of the CT scan of the abdomen is as follows:
There is dilatation of common bile dust (CBD).
CBD is the common duct that drains the bile from the liver and gall bladder.
It enters the small intestine at the level of duodenum.
The average diameter of the CBD is 6mm.Diameter beyond 6 mm is called dilatation.
there are various causes of dilatation of the CBD.
Stones in the CBD, and lesions of the head of the pancreas (cancer of head of pancreas) are the most common causes of dilated CBD.
However, there is no lesion detected in the head of the pancreas, so there may be an abnormality in the CBD.
Stones are the most probable cause of dilatation.
The gall bladder stones and stones of the CBD are radiolucent in 90 % cases.

Thanks and take care
