My daughters boyfriend has been experiencing bruising on his arms that seem to be spreading what could be the cause this is something that has not happened before. He is a new college student and is going to see his doctor this weekend the campus clinic had no idea. My daughter had a close friend recently diagnosed with leukemia and I know bruising is one of the symptoms so what else could it be
hello there! bruising is a broad symtptom for many reasons. if trauma is not the cause with no history of traumatic exposure or familial bleeding disorders, then they need a bit work up. purpuraes (purple) color bruises spreading mean some thing is wrong with the platelets , the clotting mechanism is not working, your daughters boyfriend will need a complete blood profile with liver functions assessments for knowing better the reason behind it. there are many reasons for non traumatic brauises all of which act through the mechanism of disturbing the bleeding clotting tendencies and shift the balance to the bleeding tendencies, thrombocytopenia, ITP, pancytopenia, liver failure, bone marrow issues, malignancies, lymphomas etc . but just a complete blood profile will be a good start. lets hope for the best. cheers
