I sprauned my ankle ine week ago, extensive bruising on sole of foot , toes outside and inside of ankle and severeswelling. I can now walk on the ball if my foot but am in severe pain on the outside of my ankle just below the joint , particularly when resting. It stiffens and clicks when bearing weight. The pain is quite unbearable with 8/500 cocodamol. Is this normal?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for posting your query.

From description it seems to be soft tissue injury or ligament injury.

You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.

I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.

Meanwhile, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.

Regards.
