Bowel Movement Had Pinkish Water. Same Symptom Experienced Before, After Eating Beets. Solution?

I just had a bowel movement that was otherwise normal, but the water looked sort of pinkish/brown. There was no indication of blood (pink or otherwise) on the paper or on the stool . I had beets last night at dinner, and have experienced this symptom before after eating beets. On the other hand , I am a 53 yr. old man w/a long history of Crohn s Disease (in remission since I was 20 after resection), so I am a bit wary of such symptoms. My last colonoscopy was 10 months ago--everything normal. No family history of cancer . Any thoughts? Mark

Hi Mark,

Thank you so much for this query.
I am sorry hear about what you have been experiencing.

From the information you have provided, the pinkish water is most likely related to the intake of beets. This is even more true because it has consistently happened each time you consume beets. if it were a recurrence of the crohn's disease, I am pretty sure you would have had constant symptoms irrespective of what you eat. Also, having no other symptoms with a last colonoscopy which was entirely normal make the above thoughts very correct.

I hope you find this useful and informative. If you have more questions, please ask us and we shall gladly provide answers. I wish you good health.
