Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
Generally rib fractures do not need any specific treatment and they heal on their own without any issues.
At times, a grossly displaced UPPER rib fracture may cause injury
to the underlying blood vessels.
If the pain is not getting relieved by routine analgesic
medications, then an INTERCOSTAL NERVE BLOCK
with a long acting anesthetic
will provide good relief.
As for as my knowledge is concerned, no one performs a rib resection for a malunited fracture of the rib.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
