Body ache, sleepiness, head pain, hot and cold flashes. Signs of flu?

My whole body ache, I m really sleepy, my head hurts, and I get cold and hot flashes. I been feeling like this for awhile now but today it s worst. My left ear will randomly hurt for a few seconds then go away. My mom said she thinks its the flu but I never had the flu or the flu shot. So I don t know what to expect if I have the flu.

Dear patient,

Thanks for the query; everything points out towards an infection, likely viral in nature; the term flu is used generically for a series of respiratory infections caused by viruses; treatment is usually directed towards symptoms as your body fights the infection on its own; if that is not the case, then seeking medical attention is indicated in case that antibiotics are needed for a bacterial infection

Yours truly,
