Blood in urine. No pain or back ache. Urine test shows traces of blood. Cause?

my son is 18 & the other nite he peed blood; no pain & no back ache or anything; took him to the doctor today & they done a urine test & his blood count & everything showed fine except a trace of blood in urine; they also looked at his record & in 2007 it showed that he had a trace of blood in a urine test then also... what could be the cause of this & do you think it is something serious?

The common causes of blood in the urine are infection and stones.
So these need to be ruled out by an ultrasound and urine culture.
If these are negative your son may have a disease of the kidneys.
It's advisable to see a nephrologist
