Blood Drawn For Test, Checked Blood Pressure In Same Hand. Lump Formed, Severe Pain, Numbness, Limited Movement. Solution?
Yesterday I had my blood drawn and for some reason the lab tech decided to do my blood pressure on the same arm. A few minutes after the blood pressure a lump the size of a golf ball appeared and swelled the inside of my elbow. The pain was incredible and I couldn't move my arm. We put ice on it and the lump went away within 20 minutes or so, but even more than an hour after that my hand started going numb and tingly and kept was going in and out of sensation. Even weirder was that I felt woozy (one 2 little things of blood were taken) and even today I still just don't feel right, my arm is killing me, and there is NO bruising like the blew my vein (which she claimed.) The area is hard as a rock where it ballooned and I wanted to ask what happened and if there is anything I need to do...
Hello, The swelling resulted due to the leak of blood from the punctured site, from where blood was drawn. It was a mistake on the part of the person to have noted the BP from the same arm. Anyway, there is nothing to worry as this local collection of blood shall get absorbed by the system gradually. You may have pain and swelling for few days more. Take a oral anti inflammatory like ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day for 4-5 days. Thanks
