Hi
Thanks for your query
PCOD is
polycystic ovarian disease is a most common hormonal reproductive problem in young females.
Reasons for this disease are unknown but it is more common in overweight females, although hereditary link up is also seen but not yet proven.
According to height and weight of your friend she doesn't seen to be overweight as her BMI is nearly 21 which is normal.
Maybe there is some other reason for this disease.
PCOD in many cases is not troublesome and do not effect fertility.
Actually the problem starts when cysts create hormonal imbalance.
In extreme it can lead to overweight, scanty or no periods, acne, anovulation leading to infertility,
excessive hair growth, pelvic pain, mood swings,
diabetes mellitus,
hypertension,
high cholesterol.
Vitamins and mineral supplements and weight loss can help to some extent.
But in extreme case proper medication according to symptoms is needed.
Regards.
