Bitten By Dog Few Days Back. Took Anti-rabies Injections. Bit By Dog Again. Take Anti Rabies Vaccine Again?

Hello, I was bitten by my dog early this year. It s a small cut but still, I went to the doctor, and she gave me 4 injections of anti- rabies . The dog that bit me still lives up to this day and he s healthy. Now again, I got a bite by my sister s dog. I want to know how long does the anti-rabies vaccination last in human body to prevent rabies or should i go to the doctor again? Thank you very much.

Hi
Thanks for your query
In case of re exposure wound management is same wash area with plenty of water,
regarding vaccination you have to take two doses of anti rabies vaccination on day 0 and day 3.
watch dog for ten days,
i advise you to go for VNA titre(rabies virus neutralising antibody)and minimum level approved by WHO is 0.5Lu/ml of serum at six months of primary vaccination.

Take care
God bless

General & Family Physician Dr. Polash Sannigrahi's  Response
Hello dear...
The duration of immunity afforded by a course of anti-rabies vaccination is found to be between 2 to 3 years.
A booster dose is recommended at one year, & studies have shown that after its administration, protection is achieved upto 10 years.
So...there is nothing to worry...just meet your Doctor & take a booster dose.
Wishing you Good Health
Thanks & Take care
