Bitten By Cat, Itching Breast. What To Do?

I am worried that I may have gotten something due to my out door cat having had the mange and I had petted him. I washed my hands. And within the month my husband and I treated the cat with a two step medicine shampooing, to rid him of the mange. I wore gloves during each of these two washes. The cat managed to bite me ,on one of these washings. I disinfected the very small bite mark where it had drawn blood. However about three weeks after the second washing I woke up itching throughout the middle part of the night on my breasts, both of them. It continues to itch and wake me up for about an hour or so and then subsides. It has continued to do this for about two weeks now off and on mostly itching intensely in the middle of the night. I believe it is now spreading to other areas of my body, as they appear to be becoming very itchy as well. The symtoms are less noticeable in the day, but are still there. I can t see any real evidence except two or three pin sized bumps. Did I somehow contract the mange?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Though cat mange does not cause severe infection in humans, it is known to cause skin bumps which are reddish in color and similar to mosquito bites. The infection does not progress to serious illness but can cause itching and discomfort. The disease is spread by a mite that cannot complete its life cycle in humans. You can apply calamine lotion to reduce itching. If symptoms persist, consult a dermatologist.

Hope this helps
