Bitten By A Dog On Calf Muscle, Bleeding, Bruising, Difficulty Standing. Treatment Options?
hello doctor i was bitten by a friends dog on my left calf muscle , i have been bleeding there is bruising and its hard for me to stand up. at this moment i dont know how to treat this bite. There are piercing due to the bite i would appreciate it if you would help me by telling me whats the best thing to treat it here at home.
Hi, dogs bites are specific injuries because we always expect infection; these wounds are highly contaminated. There is no reason to panic. You should find out is this dog healthy and vaccinated,if not, go to hospital.
Dogs bites wounds are NEVER sutured.
What should you do? clean wound using soap and water and some kind of antiseptic, put a sterile packing on it. After 24 hours, the packing should be removed and the wound reexamined for signs of infection( pain, heat, redness, swelling). if you notice these signs, go to hospital...
Dr. Ivan Romich, wish you good health
