Bite Lips When Stressed. Bump Formed In Center, Swollen. Skin Getting Cracked, Peeling. Cure?

My daughter has a problem, when shes stressed she bites rge skin off her lips ... Her lips have been.very chapped and cracked. But yesterday she woke up with a bump in the center of her lip like.she bit it really hard or something, but she didnt, just really.swollen, its.been bleeding ect. Is there anything we can.do to help tge swelling or, just let it run its course? I know its painful, and shes been putting chapstick on, but they are.just contiuing to crack and peel. Its also 20°out side, but our air isnt very dry in our house.

Hello amarie19k
Welcome to HCM

Biting lips or nails, or pulling hair in a child may be a warning sign of underlaying anxiety. In order to ward of unconscious stresses and anxiety a child may start biting nails or lips, so it should not be just ignored. What you can do is-
- Provide warm support to child and give a secure environment to her at home, discuss about her school (if she is school going) and try to find out the stress if any.
- For symptomatic relief you can use token economy method, ask her to stop biting lips and in return of desired behavior give tokens to her, in return of a particular number of tokens give her some reward. With time she will be out of her anxiety and will improve.
- Get her Hemoglobin levels checked as it may be a underlying condition.
- Visit a good psychologist to consult about behavioral management of her problem if not controlled at home.
- you can apply any lip balm to avoid dryness of her lips
Hope I solved your query.
