Biopsy Confirms Breast Cancer While Mammogram Shows No Signs. What Could Be The Reason For This Contradiction?

My mom had a mass in her brain. They tested the tissue and it says that she has breast cancer. She had breast cancer the first time when she was 36 she is now 44. She got a mammogram today and it came back with no signs of breast cancer. I m confused so is the biopsy wrong or what and where could it be?

Hello and welcome to health care magic.
The mammogram is an xray screening test. It has a drawback like 10% chance of missing a real cancer. That is 10 in 100 ladies tested. These are called false negative results. It is due to dense Breast tissue in some women and overlapping of normal tissue over cancer tissues.
Biopsy is more specific than mammogram and my advice is to follow the biopsy result which will be more accurate.
Thank you
