Being Allergic To Penicillin, Is It Safe To Continue Mupirocin Cream With Methylprednisol Tablets For Skin Tear?

Used Mupirocin on a skin tear on my leg.it was painful, burned and left my leg red. Also, m doctor prescribed
cephalexin 500 mg capsules with it. Today I was told to replace the cephalxin with methylprednisolone
4mg dospak 21's. I am alergic to penicillin and don't know whether she means for me to continue using
the ointment now along with this methylprednisol.

Hi.Thanks for writing on HCM.
Mupirocin is safe and can be used. However I would advice to discontinue Cephalexin due to low rate of cross reactions.I prefer using Azithromycin 500mg once daily for 3 days. You can continue the rest of the medication.Hope this answers your query.
