hi my name is Brittany I have really bad feet pain. sometimes I have to walk on the balls of my feet because my heels hurt, but usually it s the balls of my feet that hurt, my ankle, and the bone that runs on the outside of my foot along the pinkie toe , my right foot does not hurt as much as the left my left foot hurt so bad it makes me want to cry. I am a little over weight I have lost 50 pounds and tried all kinds of shoes and nothing helps.

Hi Brittany ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

You are doing the right thing by trying to reduce your weight, as this is one of the main culprit for the pain in your feet because they carry all the weight of your body. There will be a gradual reduction in pain once the weight comes down provided there is no other organic problem.

If I were your doctor, I would have advised you for a routine CBC, ESR, Blood sugar test, a serum uric acid, serum calcium and phosphorus, and serum Vit D3 levels. A thyroid profile would also be an addition to these tests. Further management will depend on the reports of these investigations.

If all are normal, and you continue to get such pain, then I would advise you to dip your feet in luke warm water twice a day for 10 minutes each and then dry it up before giving it a good massage with any oil or an anti inflammatory gel. Also avoid wearing tight shoes and go for regular exercises within your medical limits.

If it persists, I would advise you for an X ray foot AP and Lateral view, which may show a calcaneal spur. You may need to wear shoes with good padding for it, and if the problem increases, then you might have to consult an orthopaedic surgeon , who may advise you a steroid injection at the spur site, apart from advising you for a regular physiotherapy exercises, which might relieve your symptoms.

I hope this clears your query. Thanks for choosing the healthcaremagic for your doubts on health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
