Baby Being Irritable Since Birth, Changing Stool Color And Type. What Could Be The Reason?

Please help re my 11 month old son who has been irritable on and off since birth and I don t seem to be getting anywhere with DRs locally and I just know he not right. As neonate irritable and unsettled awake crying approx every two hours. BO daily with green stools from birth till 5months. +++ bottom wind as a neonate. Commenced on neocate at 5months with some improvement. Dr said he was cows milk intolerant. Now on Soya milk for two weeks (as advised by dietician), irritability remains unchanged Always been irritable on and off have good few days then irritable few days with no particular pattern. Tommy now 11months old continues to have irritable periods with restless nights. Last weekend whilst irritable on changing his nappy stools appeard soft but when turned over noticed dark pellet stools with soft stool after (not looked underneath stool previously as always appeared soft so dont know if stools aways been this way). Weight gain always been good now approx 8kg at 11months old. BO once daily (2-3 times daily during periods) Has big wet nappies, urine not concentrated Has x2 fruit puree pots a day and 20-24oz milk plus other baby jar foods and figure food Have noticed recently he opens bowels whilst standing up at chair. At times he will be on all fours rocking. Tends to pull at stomach at times, use to pinch stomach when younger He had three stool motions yesterday, first one hard pellets only, second on pellets with soft yellow stools after, third on soft he then had a great day following stools motions, his stool was soft again this morning however his was irritable on all four rocking then passed bottom wind and settled to sleep . went to GP last week took pics of stool and have now been told to keep stool diary for two weeks and put on height fiber diet, he is currently of dairy and wheat free diet. I so glade he currently having good day but just know it won t last long I always get hopes up then he turns again I am now keeping stool diary to see if stools linked but I have always thought he got something wrong with his guts, and I just don t know how much longer I can go on with this up and down it been 11months Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks Sophie

Pediatrician 's  Response
I hope his development is normal and there is no problem with his vision and hearing. Please check whether he is anemic. Anemia can cause irritability. If irritability is precipitated by any particular food you have to avoid it. If he is on formula make sure it is properly reconstituted as concentrated formula can cause dehydration and crying due to thirst. Try playing soothing classical music regularly.
